Danmarks Fængsler

Danmarks Fængsler is Denmark’s national prison and probation service, responsible for operating the country’s prisons and remand centres and supervising people serving sentences in the community. Working alongside other justice-system authorities, it aims to reduce crime, promote public safety and help people move towards life without criminal behaviour.

Its responsibilities include managing imprisonment, custody and supervision, as well as electronic monitoring with ankle tags. The organisation provides information and practical services for people serving sentences and their families, including guidance on visits, maintaining family contact and transferring money to someone in custody. It also offers support and information for relatives, with particular attention to the effects imprisonment can have on children.

Danmarks Fængsler shares news, facts and information about its institutions and work, and invites the public to learn about prison life through events featuring virtual reality, a realistic cell and opportunities to meet staff. It also recruits across a range of roles, including prison officers, and provides training for aspiring officers.
