DKMS is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders. With a 51-year history of saving lives in seven countries across 5 continents, DKMS Africa prides itself on being the premier organization in Africa to recruit donors to create awareness about blood stem cell donation and maintain a global registry of donors who are representative of the world's diversity and ethnic background. The organization was founded more than 30 years ago after Mechtild Harf's family was told the only treatment for her leukemia was a bone marrow transplant.

Since then, DKMS has worked tirelessly to expand the registry of potential stem cell donors and provide as many blood cancer patients as possible with a second chance at life.
