DMI

Dizionario della Musica in Italia (DMI) is a cultural and archival initiative based in Latina, dedicated to Italian musicians and performers from the past three centuries. Its central resource is an evolving online dictionary, offering biographical information about people in Italy’s musical life, particularly those whose personal archives are held by the DMI. The organisation also preserves and makes available collections through its musicians’ archive, sound archive, archive of Italian romances, and specialist library.

Visitors can consult the dictionary and explore multimedia materials, including musical and photographic galleries, as well as publications and press coverage. DMI supports research and public engagement through conferences, study events, presentations, training opportunities, and guided consultation of its collections. It also catalogues and digitises archival materials, working with cultural institutions and public partners to improve access to Italy’s musical heritage. Its publications include musician biographies and catalogues describing preserved collections. Based in Latina, DMI welcomes supporters, shares news about its activities, and provides information about its holdings and services through its website.
