About DocA- Documentary Africa
DocA is a unique Pan-African initiative that aims to cultivate and nourish a self-sustaining documentary film ecosystem in Africa. Our goal is to support the African documentary film industry through various interconnected initiatives. We provide grants, mentorships, workshops, residencies, and access to our Africa Real Collective (ARC) labs.
Our mission is to enable African documentary filmmakers to tell African narratives through their own lens, challenging dominant and inaccurate narratives about the continent. By doing so, we are working towards an Africa that reclaims agency over its own narratives, amplifying them as tools for socio-political change and inspiration. DocA's impact is evident through our beneficiaries, such as Enver Samuel, whose film Murder In Paris (2021) received grant funding.
We also support knowledge-building and sharing through our Africa Documentary Ecosystem Platform (ADEPt), and provide platforms like Doc Day and FESPACO for showcasing African talent. With our commitment to African voices and the power of storytelling, we strive to create a vibrant and thriving documentary film community in Africa.
