About DofE Aberdeenshire
DofE Aberdeenshire helps young people in the area take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award through the Aberdeenshire Open Award Group. The group is made up of qualified, disclosure-checked volunteers recruited and overseen by Aberdeenshire Council. Its Bronze Award programme is open to eligible young people in S3 or above who live in Aberdeenshire and attend a school that does not offer DofE, are home-schooled, or are school leavers aged up to 24.
Participants work towards three activity sections: developing a skill, volunteering in the community and taking part in physical activity. The group provides online guidance and support, while participants record activities and evidence through eDofE. The fourth section is an expedition, completed in a team of four to seven. DofE Aberdeenshire offers training in route planning, campcraft, first aid and navigation, and supports participants in preparing for an overnight hike. Tents, stoves, maps, compasses and rucksacks are provided. Enrolment costs £45, with a further £25 payable when expedition training begins.
