DonegalHistory

The County Donegal Historical Society is dedicated to promoting and sharing the history, people and heritage of County Donegal in the north-west of Ireland. Its website serves as a repository of information about the region, from prehistoric portal tombs and stone circles to ring forts, castles and ancient churches. Society members contribute content and support, helping make local history accessible to a wider audience.

The Society offers a programme of activities and resources for people interested in Donegal’s past. These include field days, coach tours, lectures, museum visits, a gallery and a schools’ competition. Its Emerson Lecture and other talks feature historical subjects and speakers connected with the county. The Society also publishes the Donegal Annual, with current and past volumes available, and highlights publications by its members. News, event updates, membership information and a newsletter help visitors stay connected with its work. Through its publications, events and online historical material, the Society encourages people to explore and learn about Donegal’s heritage and its place in the story of Ireland.
