About Doors Open Days
Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free festival celebrating places and stories, old and new. Every September, this event allows visitors to explore hundreds of fascinating buildings across Scotland for free, some of which only open once a year or once in a lifetime. Since its inception in 1990 with 44 events in Glasgow and Ayr, Doors Open Days has grown to encompass all 32 council regions in Scotland, offering access to nearly 1,000 events.
Coordinated by the Scottish Civic Trust nationally, Doors Open Days is part of European Heritage Days and Scottish Archaeology Month. Supported by Historic Environment Scotland, the festival is made possible by a dedicated team of regional coordinators who work with venues and groups to curate local programs.
