Dorillat is a French artisan eyewear maker founded by Fernand Dorillat in 1950. Based in Domont, the company draws on a heritage of traditional craftsmanship while combining established methods with newer techniques and materials. In 2011, it received the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label, recognizing its contribution to French artisanal expertise.
Dorillat handcrafts its frames, carrying out the shaping operations by hand to give each piece a distinctive character. Its made-to-measure service can begin with an existing model or with a client’s sketches, drawings, or photographs, which are adapted to the wearer’s morphology. The team reviews each commission individually, discusses technical requirements with the customer, and makes the frame in its historic workshop. Depending on the materials used, production and delivery take two to eight weeks.
Materials presented by the brand include tortoiseshell, valued for its appearance, lightness, and shape memory; horn, which shares similar qualities; and acetate, offering a wide range of colors and combinations, impact resistance, and lower costs.
