DownTek is a water-repellent down technology developed by Down Decor to help natural down retain its loft and insulating ability when exposed to moisture. Down clusters keep people warm by trapping air, but ordinary down can lose that capacity when wet. DownTek’s durable water-repellent treatment helps moisture bead up and roll off the clusters, so they can continue trapping warm air. The treated down is used in products from partner brands, including outdoor gear such as sleeping bags and jackets.
DownTek is offered in two formulations. The original version uses C6 chemistry and is described as PFOA- and PFOS-free. DownTek PFC-Free uses bluesign-approved chemistry with no PFCs and is available in goose down with fill powers from 650 to 850. The site reports shake-test performance of up to 1,000 minutes for the original and 1,500 minutes for the PFC-Free version. DownTek also highlights the Responsible Down Standard, which independently verifies animal-welfare requirements and tracks down from source to finished product.
