Downs and Special Friends is a registered charity and support group for children with special needs, their parents, families and siblings. The organisation aims to offer hope, practical support and opportunities for children and families to enjoy time together and build connections. It welcomes members from a range of ages and backgrounds and provides activities designed to encourage inclusion, healthy living and social interaction.

Its programme includes supervised opportunities to ride bikes and trikes in a safe, family-friendly environment, as well as parties featuring food, dancing and entertainment. The group also runs a cinema club, giving members the chance to enjoy an evening out and socialise in a public setting, and organises family day trips to destinations such as beaches and theme parks. Downs and Special Friends invites families to become members and offers ways to support its work through donations and fundraising. The charity serves its local community, including Kirklees, and is proudly affiliated with the Down Syndrome Association.
