Georgian Down Syndrome Association (GDSA) is a rights-based, non-profit Organization of Persons with Disabilities (OPD), founded in 2016 by parents and self-advocates. Our mission is to protect, promote, and defend the rights, dignity, and full inclusion of individuals with Down syndrome throughout their lives. We work to ensure that persons with Down syndrome in Georgia can live, learn, and work on an equal basis with others. GDSA advocates for policy change, raises public awareness, and delivers programs that create real opportunities for education, employment, and social participation. As the only dedicated OPD for people with Down syndrome in Georgia, we: Advocate for inclusive policies and legal reforms aligned with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Empower families and self-advocates through training, guidance, and peer support. Promote inclusive employment by partnering with companies, supporting social enterprises, and creating workplace opportunities. Raise awareness to challenge stereotypes and foster acceptance in society. Build alliances nationally and internationally to strengthen the voice of the Down syndrome community. GDSA is a full member of Down Syndrome International and the European Down Syndrome Association, and actively participates in global human rights networks. Despite a challenging socio-political environment, GDSA continues to grow as a leading voice for inclusion in Georgia. Our vision is a society where every person with Down syndrome is valued, empowered, and included. We welcome collaboration with businesses, donors, NGOs, and international partners who share our commitment to equality and human rights. Together, we can create a more inclusive and just future for persons with Down syndrome in Georgia and beyond.
