About Downtown Dog Rescue
Downtown Dog Rescue is a 501C3 nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing access to veterinary care for unhoused and low-income individuals with pets in Los Angeles County. Led by founder Lori Weise, the organization has been rescuing dogs and providing services to underserved communities for over 20 years. Downtown Dog Rescue offers a range of valuable services, including Shelter Intervention & Prevention (SIP) programs, a Pet Resource Center (PRC) on Skid Row, and a Pet Support Space (PSS) in South LA.
They also operate Community Pet Clinics that provide much-needed veterinary care to pets in need. One of the organization's notable accomplishments is the establishment of 2nd Chance Kennels, their state-of-the-art facility in South Gate. Through collaborative efforts with larger organizations like Best Friends Animal Society and Found Animals, Downtown Dog Rescue has been able to implement innovative programs that have prevented thousands of pets from entering shelters.
What sets Downtown Dog Rescue apart is their commitment to respecting and empowering both pets and their owners. They prioritize keeping animals with their loving families whenever possible and work diligently to provide services that are realistic and affordable for pet owners in need. Thanks to their tireless dedication, Downtown Dog Rescue has positively impacted countless lives and continues to make a difference in the communities that need it most
