About Dpic
The British Columbia Drug and Poison Information Centre (BC DPIC) has been a vital resource since its establishment in 1975, thanks to the collaboration between the BC Ministry of Health and the University of British Columbia. Located at the BC Centre for Disease Control in Vancouver, BC DPIC focuses on providing comprehensive drug and poison information to healthcare professionals and the public, serving a population of approximately 4.4 million residents.
With a dedicated team of pharmacists, nurses, and physicians, the Centre offers a 24-hour poison information hotline and specialized drug information services, including clinical practice guidelines and adverse reaction reporting. BC DPIC also provides educational materials and prevention tips to help mitigate springtime and holiday hazards. Adhering to the standards set by both the Canadian and American associations of poison control centres, BC DPIC is committed to enhancing safe medication use and effective poison management, ensuring that both professionals and the public have access to reliable information and guidance when needed.
