About Defensoría del Pueblo
Defensoría del Pueblo de la Nación is the unique National Human Rights Institution recognized by the United Nations in Argentina. As an independent body, its mission is to promote, protect, and defend human rights according to Article 86 of the National Constitution. The Defensor del Pueblo is appointed and removed by the National Congress with a two-thirds majority vote from the present members of each chamber, serving a five-year term.
The Defensoría del Pueblo de la Nación offers a range of services, including legal and technical advice, documentation and legal library access, as well as regional offices and other defenders to ensure accessibility and coverage. Their areas of focus include Identity and Citizenship, Health, Social Action, Education and Culture, Environment and Sustainable Development, Public Services, Social Security and Labor, Vulnerable Groups, Genders and Diversity, and Promotion of Human Rights and Communication.
