The Dresden Trust builds bridges of friendship and cooperation between the people of Britain and Dresden following the destruction of the historic centre by British bombing in 1945. We create bridges – and walk on them. With reconciliation largely achieved in the 30 years since its foundation, the Trust today focuses on cooperation with Dresden in friendly interchanges, learning, culture, conferences and enhancement of public spaces. We relate with people of all ages and social classes. We share our experience in healing the wounds of war by cooperating with other organisations dedicated to this cause. Through fund-raising and events, we aim to mobilise the people of Britain behind our philanthropic goals. Overall, we are committed to making a significant contribution to good British-German relations.

The Dresden Trust is a British charitable organisation founded in 1993 in response to a call from Dresden to help rebuild the city after its destruction during the Second World War. It raised more than £1 million and created the Golden Orb and Cross, now atop the rebuilt Frauenkirche, as a lasting symbol of friendship. Today, the Trust promotes cooperation and understanding between people in Britain and Dresden, contributing to strong British-German relations through education, culture, events and shared projects.
Its flagship programme, the Dresden Scholarship Scheme, enables pupils from the UK and Saxony to study in each other’s countries. British students can spend several weeks at a school in Dresden, developing their German and building friendships; the Trust also supports German pupils studying in the UK. A new alumni network extends these connections beyond the scholarships.
The Trust also organises and supports commemorations, talks, cultural exchanges, conferences and projects that enhance public spaces.
