Drghs is the Dancing Rabbit Genealogical and Historical Society, a brand dedicated to promoting family research and preserving the history of Mississippi counties. The society was formed in 1996 to emphasize Indian lands acquired through the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, signed with the Choctaw Tribe in 1830. Counties formed from this treaty include Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Clarke, Coahoma, Grenada, Jasper, Kemper, Lauderdale, Leake, Leflore, Montgomery, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Scott, Smith, Tallahatchie, and Winston.
Drghs aims to help people learn how to research their genealogy through programs, workshops, and seminars. They also study and make family history available for others to use. The society gathers local history and family information to be placed in libraries.
In addition to genealogical purposes, Drghs now also embraces historical preservation. Anyone interested in the families who lived in these Mississippi counties is invited to join the society, with meetings held monthly at the Carthage-Leake County Library.
