Driando Ahnan-Winarno

Dr. Amadeus Driando Ahnan-Winarno is a tempeh scientist, entrepreneur, musician, and marathoner whose work promotes tempeh as a nutritious, sustainable, and affordable source of protein. His mission centers on expanding access to protein through tempeh fermentation, combining scientific research with public education and food innovation. Driando is the cofounder of the Indonesian Tempe Movement, which educates, connects, and empowers people around tempeh. Its related US organization, Tempeh Movement USA, is a nonprofit.

He also cofounded Better Nature, a UK-based food technology startup and tempeh brand. The company innovates in tempeh fermentation to develop all-natural, plant-based protein products. Driando has invented four patents and written five texts on tempeh fermentation, including a comprehensive, up-to-date manuscript published in a leading food science journal. His work has received 33 international and national awards spanning research, science communication, academic achievement, and leadership. Outside food science, he creates music blending pop, funk, jazz, and folk influences, and has completed five of the six World Major Marathons, running to promote tempeh.
