Dr. Lorna Breen Foundation

The Dr. Lorna Breen Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to protect healthcare workers’ mental health and wellbeing and build a thriving, sustainable workforce. Its approach focuses on changing workplace systems and culture rather than providing direct clinical care. The Foundation brings together healthcare organizations, professionals, and communities, including more than 35 national interprofessional organizations and 300 Ambassadors, to advance collaboration and amplify workers’ experiences.

Its initiatives offer practical, evidence-informed support for healthcare organizations. Caring for Caregivers provides leadership training and guidance to help teams improve organizational wellbeing, while the Wellbeing First Champion Challenge encourages licensing boards and care facilities to remove stigmatizing mental health questions from applications. The Foundation also advocates for policies that address burnout and support health workers, including the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act. Through education, advocacy, programs, and confidential resource referrals, it works to improve access to mental health support, strengthen workplace conditions, and help healthcare organizations better recruit and retain their workforce.
