DSB

The Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB) is Norway’s national directorate for civil protection and preparedness. It works across areas that affect public safety, including fire and electrical safety, hazardous substances, consumer products and services, risk assessment, emergency preparedness, and emergency communications. DSB provides guidance and resources for professionals, public authorities, businesses, and members of the public, helping them prevent incidents and prepare for and manage crises.

Its services include training through its course centre, guidance on risk and vulnerability analysis, exercises and crisis management, inspection information, forms for applications and reporting, and access to statistics, regulations, reports, publications, consultations and decisions. DSB also shares practical advice on personal preparedness through Sikkerhverdag and promotes awareness campaigns, including preparedness and electrical safety initiatives. The directorate manages and develops Norway’s Nødnett emergency communications network and offers related training and user support. Based in Tønsberg, DSB coordinates nationally during major incidents and supports preparedness efforts at local, regional, national and international levels.
