DSV

The German Swimming Federation (Deutscher Schwimm-Verband, or DSV) is the national organisation for swimming sports in Germany. Founded in Berlin in 1886, it brings together state swimming associations and their member clubs, representing around 600,000 people across the country. The federation oversees five Olympic disciplines: swimming, open-water swimming, diving, water polo and artistic swimming, while also supporting masters’ sport and recreational activities such as aquafitness and outdoor aquarunning.

The DSV promotes participation and performance at every level. Its work includes organising competitions, supporting national teams and athletes, publishing results and event information, and providing resources for clubs, coaches and officials. It also advances swimming education, including official swimming badges, training and qualification opportunities, and guidance for families and educational organisations. Through its club finder and licensing services, the DSV helps people connect with local swimming and sport programmes. The federation also promotes safe sport and maintains a zero-tolerance approach to doping, working with Germany’s national anti-doping agency on prevention.
