The Duct Tape Prize is an initiative created by builders to support people who make inventive projects, particularly those who may lack the resources to bring their ideas to life. Its organizers say they started the prize because they once struggled to find the parts and support they needed, and wanted to make building easier for others. The program invites applicants to share a builder portfolio, website, or list of completed work.
Projects can include gadgets, experiments, machines, lasers, and other creative builds; submissions do not need to follow a set format or be specially polished. The prize pool includes $25,000 for one winner, $2,500 for each of four runners-up, and $500 for each of ten additional builders. The money comes with no strings attached, though recipients are encouraged to use it to build something.
