Dumont Nickel is a Quebec-based critical minerals company focused on developing nickel and cobalt resources for electric-vehicle batteries and the wider energy transition. Its flagship Dumont project, located about 25 kilometres west of Amos in the municipalities of Launay and Trécesson, is described as one of the world’s largest undeveloped nickel sulphide deposits. The project is fully permitted and ready to start, according to the company.
Dumont reports 1.023 billion tonnes of mineral reserves grading 0.27% nickel. At full capacity, the planned operation is expected to produce 25,000 tonnes of nickel annually over an estimated 50-year mine life. The company says this could provide a significant Canadian supply for North American and allied supply chains, serving electric vehicles as well as defence, aerospace and high-performance alloy industries.
The project emphasizes responsible development and ongoing engagement with host communities, including an impact and benefits agreement with the Abitibiwinni First Nation. It also highlights the use of Quebec’s hydroelectric power and rail infrastructure, and the carbon-sequestering potential of its tailings.
