DuneFront is a multidisciplinary European Union-funded project focused on improving coastal protection and safety through Dune-by-Dike nature-based solutions. The project explores how natural features, particularly dunes, can work together with man-made hard structures such as seawalls to help protect coastlines. Its work is guided by six core objectives designed to support the development of effective Dune-by-Dike systems.
Scientists from a range of research disciplines collaborate with companies and public services, bringing together different expertise to build a holistic understanding of these solutions. Demonstrator sites are an important part of the project, providing test structures through which approaches can be explored and evaluated. The consortium will combine and assess its data and experience to produce practical, usable and future-proof solutions for coastal protection.
