About Diocese of West TX
The Diocese of West Texas (DWTX) is a part of The Episcopal Church, a Christian community with over 2. 4 million members in America and around the world. As a member of the Anglican Communion, a global community with 74 million followers in 38 provinces, DWTX shares historical and theological connections.
In South Central Texas, DWTX celebrates its cultural diversity and welcomes individuals from bicultural communities. DWTX consists of 87 congregations, including parishes, missions, and church plants, ranging in size from 40 to 2,000 members. Parishes sustain priests known as rectors, while missions are led by vicars or dedicated lay leaders.
Regardless of size, all congregations are central to DWTX's identity and mission. Under the leadership of the Rt. Rev.
David M. Reed, the diocese operates with an annual Diocesan Council where every congregation actively participates in legislative, corporate, and fellowship matters. The diocese also places great emphasis on theological education, partnering with Seminary of the Southwest and the Iona Collaborative to train bi-vocational priests and deacons.
