About East African Community
The East African Community (EAC) is a regional intergovernmental organization that consists of seven Partner States: Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda, and Tanzania. Established in 1967, the EAC is guided by its Treaty, which was signed in 2000. The EAC's goal is to promote integration and cooperation among its member states, and it operates through various organs including the Summit, the Council of Ministers, the Secretariat, the East African Court of Justice, and the East African Legislative Assembly.
The Secretariat, located in Arusha, Tanzania, serves as the executive organ of the Community. It is responsible for implementing the decisions made by the Summit and coordinating the activities of the EAC institutions. The EAC also has nine institutions, three of which became operational in July 2015.
These institutions have their own leadership and receive funding from the EAC budget. Overall, the EAC works towards fostering regional integration and addressing common challenges faced by its partner states in areas such as trade, economic development, and political cooperation
