About EarthPortal
EarthPortal is an online repository for ontologies and other semantic artefacts related to the Earth system, the environment, and connected domains. It helps researchers and other users discover, explore, share, and connect structured knowledge. Visitors can browse ontologies and agents, search ontology content, and explore mappings, landscape groups, and categories. The portal also provides tools including a recommender and annotator, a SPARQL editor, and statistics, alongside documentation and support resources.
Users can submit ontologies, vocabularies, terminologies, thesauri, and other semantic artefacts to share their work. EarthPortal supports adding descriptive metadata, receiving a FAIR score, mapping an ontology to relevant resources, and gathering feedback from other users. Its “slices” let users focus portal features on a selected subset of ontologies, including the Data Terra slice.
EarthPortal is built with OntoPortal software, supported by the OntoPortal Alliance, a consortium of research and infrastructure teams. The portal also provides API access and connects users with other public OntoPortal repositories, including BioPortal, AgroPortal, and EcoPortal.
