EASI-STRESS 🇪🇺

EASI-STRESS is a European research and innovation project focused on making advanced residual stress characterization more accessible and useful to industry. Led by the Danish Technological Institute, the initiative brings together partners to strengthen the use of non-destructive synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction techniques for measuring internal stresses in metallic components. Its work includes validating these measurements against established destructive methods and developing practical procedures, protocols, instruments, and data-analysis software. The project also supports industrial testing, collaboration, and knowledge sharing through case studies, publications, events, and outreach.

By helping manufacturers understand how residual stresses form and change, EASI-STRESS aims to improve the design and lifetime assessment of metal components. Reliable measurement data can be compared with and incorporated into modelling tools, supporting safer, more efficient design decisions. The project anticipates that better knowledge of actual stress levels could reduce reliance on conservative safety margins, potentially lowering material use and costs while extending product life and shortening time to market.
