East Border Region (EBR) is a local-authority-led cross-border organisation serving a population of just under one million across six local authorities along the east coast of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Established in 1976, it is one of Europe’s longest-standing organisations of its kind. EBR works with public-sector stakeholders to support balanced and sustainable development across the region, which extends from County Monaghan to the Ards Peninsula and sits within the Dublin–Belfast economic corridor.
Rather than offering consumer products, EBR provides specialist support for regional cooperation and development. Its services to member local authorities include capacity building for elected representatives and officials, identifying and developing projects, and coordinating and managing EU-funded initiatives, including compliance support. The organisation participates in cross-border programmes such as INTERREG and PEACE PLUS, helping partners bring projects forward across the region. Its work spans economic, social and cultural development, with initiatives intended to strengthen collaboration and address shared regional needs. EBR also shares project news, funding opportunities and updates through its website and newsletter.
