About District Magistrate
East Champaran, established in 1866, was originally part of a single Champaran district until it was split in 1972 into Purbi Champaran and Paschim Champaran. Purbi Champaran now comprises six subdivisions and twenty-seven blocks, with Motihari as its headquarters. Situated in the Tirhut Division, Nepal forms its northern boundary, while Sitamadhi and Sheohar are to the east, Muzaffarpur to the south, and Gopalganj to the west.
The name "Champaran" derives from "Champa-aranya," meaning the forest of Magnolia trees.
