The Gardens of Easton Lodge are a historic garden destination near Great Dunmow in Essex, with origins dating to Tudor times and a major redesign by Harold Peto in 1902. Listed on Historic England’s Grade II Register, the gardens have been partly restored by dedicated volunteers and the owners of Warwick House. Visitors can explore Peto’s colourful Italian garden, his rebuilt treehouse in an old oak, a walled kitchen garden, a Japanese garden, a stumpery and a World War II memorial garden.
The grounds also feature ten national or regional champion trees and historic Essex fruit varieties. Seasonal fruit and vegetables from the kitchen garden are available to buy. The gardens welcome visitors on selected open days, including Thursdays during the season and Sunday family open days, with refreshments such as hot and cold drinks and homemade cakes.
The Trust also arranges group visits and talks about the gardens’ history, including the Countess of Warwick, and maintains an archive of photographs, documents and artefacts
