The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) is a sovereign Indigenous nation with its own laws, elections, government, and institutions. Based in Cherokee, North Carolina, in the Great Smoky Mountains, the EBCI maintains relationships with federal and state governments while exercising self-government and serving its tribal communities. Its official website connects citizens and the public with information about tribal leadership, the Tribal Council, courts, finance, enrollment, elections, news, and community events.

The EBCI provides a broad range of public and community services through its departments and programs. These include education, public health and human services, housing, emergency services, natural resources, agriculture, recreation, library services, and support for elders and young people. The nation also offers employment opportunities, internships, member-portal access, and information about enrollment and member benefits. Its economic and enterprise activities include commerce, property, a bank, fairgrounds, and destination marketing. For visitors, the website highlights Cherokee’s cultural and natural attractions, including the Oconaluftee Indian Village and the Museum of the Cherokee Indian, and shares information to help plan a visit.
