About Economic and Business History Society
The Economic and Business History Society (EBHS) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was established in 1975. Its mission is to promote interdisciplinary scholarship in the fields of business and economic history, as well as the application of historical perspectives to current issues. The society brings together historians, economists, business professionals, social scientists, and others who share a common interest in these areas.
One of the key offerings of the EBHS is its annual conference, which takes place over three days in late April or May. The conference provides a platform for members and friends to present papers, engage in discussions on a wide range of topics, and participate in tours of business or historical sights in the area. A highlight of the conference is the annual banquet, where a renowned speaker addresses the attendees.
Furthermore, the EBHS publishes the journal, Essays in Economic & Business History (EEBH). This publication showcases high-quality research from various aspects of economic and business history. It welcomes both empirical and non-empirical research, as well as unconventional pieces that may not fit the traditional mold of economic or business history.
The EBHS is committed to creating a professional and inclusive environment where all participants are treated with equality and respect. It actively upholds a Professional Conduct Policy to prevent discrimination and harassment. With its expansive scope of interest, the EBHS covers a wide array of topics in its conferences.
Recent paper titles include subjects such as government spending determinants, the evolution of commercial contracts, partnerships hindering growth, and the impact of politicians on technological change. Overall, the Economic and Business History Society provides a platform for scholars, professionals, and enthusiasts to come together, exchange ideas, and contribute to the field of business and economic history through research, conferences, and publications
