The European Climate Assessment & Dataset (ECA&D) is a pivotal project that focuses on monitoring and analyzing changes in weather and climate extremes across Europe and the Mediterranean. Established in 1998 and supported by EUMETNET and the European Commission, ECA&D provides comprehensive daily datasets essential for research and education. As of June 30, 2024, the database has been updated with significant contributions from national meteorological authorities, including new temperature and precipitation data from France, Hungary, and Ukraine.

ECA&D serves as a crucial data node within the Regional Climate Centre for the World Meteorological Organization, contributing to the Global Framework for Climate Services. With data from 87 contributors spanning 65 countries, ECA&D hosts an extensive dataset that includes nearly 93,376 observation series from 23,775 meteorological stations. Participants in the project benefit from open access to 82% of the data for non-commercial research. The initiative continues to strengthen climate research through collaborations across multiple European climate projects and initiatives.
