EcoBiodiversity is a student-led initiative at Newton South High School in Newton, Massachusetts, focused on protecting local ecosystems and native biodiversity. Founded by student Armine Freeman, the organization brings young people together to take practical environmental action and build a stronger connection with nature. Its work centers on three values: conservation, education, and appreciation.
EcoBiodiversity organizes seasonal native-planting activities in fall and spring, and builds pollinator houses during winter. Made from wood or other recycled materials, these structures provide places for solitary pollinators to shelter and hibernate. The group also offers educational activities, including teaching preschool children about the natural world, and plans to host or attend webinars that help students learn how to contribute to environmental efforts. Highlighted activities include Climate Week at Columbia University, Newton South preschool education, and Eco Echoes: Voice of America.
The initiative partners with environmental organizations in Newton, which help fund its projects, and aims to collaborate with additional nonprofit and environmental organizations.
