About EcoBrixs
EcoBrixs is a remarkable brand that is on a mission to recycle plastic and create job opportunities in Uganda. It all began as a small operation in a backyard garden, but has now grown into a team of inspirational and friendly individuals based in both Uganda and the United Kingdom. The founders, Andy Bownds and Gee Elliott, have led this brand to make a massive environmental and economical impact.
EcoBrixs has developed a closed-loop recycling model to address the pressing issue of plastic waste and unemployment in Uganda. They have established over 20 Recycling Centers where the community can bring their plastic waste. The brand then sells the recycled plastic, known as Eco-Products, to generate revenue and continue purchasing plastic from the community.
The collectors are paid according to the weight of the plastic they bring, providing them with income opportunities. Not only does EcoBrixs recycle plastic waste into various Eco-Products such as bricks, pavers, fence posts, face shields, and hats, but they also focus on sustainability and creating community income opportunities. They have already recycled over 350 tonnes of plastic waste and created 3000 income opportunities within the local community.
EcoBrixs also strongly aligns its work with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. They employ disabled community members, contribute to the aesthetic improvement of the town, encourage accountability for waste, and provide a sustainable solution to plastic recycling. Led by a skilled management team and a dedicated board of trustees, EcoBrixs is making a significant impact on both the environment and the lives of people in Uganda.
Their innovative approach to plastic recycling and their commitment to creating employment opportunities have garnered local and international partnerships with organizations such as Tearfund and the Queen's Commonwealth Trust. They also specialize in disability employment and youth education initiatives. With their model, EcoBrixs is paving the way towards a greener and more prosperous future for Uganda
