Eco Educate is an environmental education and consulting organisation that helps people rethink waste and make better use of resources that might otherwise be sent to landfill. Since beginning its workshops in 2010, the organisation has grown to a seven-person team and works with more than 250 schools, preschools and high schools across Canterbury. Its founder and director, Lesley Ottey, brings over 36 years of tutoring experience across a range of ages, abilities and backgrounds.
Eco Educate offers fun, friendly and informative workshops with practical ideas participants can put into action straight away. Topics include sustainability, composting, Bokashi, worm farms, environmental awareness and action, recycling, and rethinking waste. The organisation also provides workplace assessments to help reduce environmental impacts and conserve natural resources. Workshops and consultations are customised to suit each client’s needs. Eco Educate works alongside the Waimakariri and Ashburton District Councils and receives funding to provide free workshops in those districts. It also invites people to subscribe to its newsletter for updates and promotional materials.
