École Montessori Nantes

Les Petons dans l’Herbe is an eco-citizen Montessori school in Nantes Nord, France, welcoming children aged 3 to 12. Set in a house surrounded by 650 square metres of garden, the school offers two learning environments: Les Chenilles for ages 3–6 and Les Papillons for ages 6–12. Its approach respects each child’s pace and encourages independence, curiosity, confidence, cooperation and care for the natural world.

Children learn through hands-on Montessori materials, guided presentations, individual exploration and collaborative projects. The older group also studies subjects including French, mathematics, science, history and geography through research, stories, activities and outings. The school’s facilities include child-adapted classrooms, a quiet nap room, kitchen areas, accessible bathrooms and outdoor spaces for gardening, composting and play.

Music is part of school life, and the 6–12 group attends concerts at La Folle Journée de Nantes. Les Petons dans l’Herbe also hosts open days and seasonal activities, including theatre and visual arts workshops open to children beyond the school. It serves families in Nantes and nearby communities
