EcoPeak4Fish is a research project dedicated to finding innovative and effective solutions for the sustainable development of hydropower energy without compromising the riverine ecosystem, particularly freshwater fish populations. By implementing well-planned and cost-effective measures, such as flow-refuges and adjustments to hydropower plant operation schemes, EcoPeak4Fish aims to mitigate the impacts on fish while maximizing energy production. The project focuses on four essential aspects known as the 4E's of EcoPeak4Fish: Ecosystem, Ecology, Engineering, and Economy.

It recognizes that river ecosystems are complex and interconnected, with fish playing a vital role. Understanding the relationships between fish and their environment is crucial for sustainable fish conservation and management, especially in the face of competing water uses like hydropower. EcoPeak4Fish also highlights the importance of engineering solutions that can maintain the prominence of hydropower as a renewable energy source.

By investing in mitigation measures that are durable and adaptable to the ever-changing environment, the project aims to support the development of self-sustainable fish populations downstream from hydropower plants. Addressing the need for increased hydropower production and the development of self-sustainable fish populations in a cost-effective manner, EcoPeak4Fish aligns with the European Green Deal and the UN Agenda 2030 goals. The project actively participates in conferences and public sessions to share its findings and promote collaboration in achieving a sustainable balance between hydropower and the preservation of fish populations.
