The European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) is a pan-European alliance of 127 NGOs based in 40 countries protecting and advancing the rights of refugees, asylum seekers and displaced persons. Our mission is to promote the establishment of fair and humane European asylum policies and practices in accordance with international human rights law. Working together with our members and partners to inform and persuade European authorities and the public, we monitor and denounce human rights violations while proposing and promoting fair and effective durable solutions. We accomplish our mission through research, advocacy and the sharing of knowledge and expertise.

About European Council on Refugees and Exiles
ECRE (European Council on Refugees and Exiles) is an alliance of 117 NGOs from 40 European countries dedicated to protecting and advocating for the rights of refugees, asylum-seekers, and forcibly displaced individuals in Europe. Through their work, ECRE aims to ensure that these vulnerable populations have access to their rights and to effect meaningful legal changes. ECRE operates through three main activities.
First, their Legal Support and Litigation program provides assistance to asylum seekers and refugees, helping them navigate the legal system and advocating for their rights through strategic litigation. Second, their Advocacy team seeks to influence government policies and practices that impact refugee rights within Europe and European external action. Lastly, their Communication team turns ECRE's expertise into impactful messages aimed at the public.
In addition, ECRE manages and develops important tools such as the Asylum Information Database (AIDA), containing information on asylum procedures, reception conditions, and detention across 23 countries, and the European Database of Asylum Law (EDAL), which provides summaries of refugee and asylum case law from courts in 22 EU Member States. The European Legal Network on Asylum (ELENA), a forum of legal practitioners committed to promoting human rights standards for refugees and asylum seekers, is also part of ECRE.
