The Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) is an industry-recognised system for accrediting the qualifications, experience and competence of workers in the electrotechnical sector. Administered in England, Wales and Northern Ireland by the Joint Industry Board, with applications in Scotland handled by the Scottish Joint Industry Board, ECS helps employers, clients and the public verify that people are equipped to work safely and to recognised industry standards.
ECS provides cards that reflect workers’ skills, qualifications, assessments and career progression, with routes for apprentices, experienced workers and people seeking specialist roles. Its digital services include MyECS, where cardholders can manage their records, and ECS Check, which enables employers and others to verify cards. The Employer Portal helps organisations view and manage staff card details and applications.
The scheme also supports health and safety assessments, online assessment options, continuing professional development and progression pathways. Employers and training providers can support and verify applications, while assessment and renewal guidance helps users maintain their records.
