We are Ecurie Aix, the Formula Student Team of RWTH Aachen University. With over 500 teams, Formula Student is the world’s largest design competition for budding engineers. Together, we design an electric and autonomous race car which we compete with against teams from all over the world on Europe’s most famous race tracks. Although the development, design and manufacturing of our vehicles is in the hands of our student team members, we are supported by many institutes as well as industry partners. Our goal is to compete with a lighter, faster and better vehicle on the track every year. But it’s not all about the technology: our club’s economy, organization and presentation are also judged at competitions. Over 70 active team members and around 500 alumni have so far taken the opportunity to make their studies more diverse with Ecurie Aix. Not only can we apply study content in practice and take responsibility for our project from the very beginning, but we also have the opportunity to experience how our own designs become reality.

Ecurie Aix is a student motorsport team at RWTH Aachen University, founded in 1999 by students who wanted to take part in the Formula Student engineering challenge. Its name combines “Ecurie,” the French word for racing team, with Aix-la-Chapelle, the French name for Aachen, reflecting the region’s motorsport heritage. Since 2010, the team has competed with electrically powered race cars, and since 2017 it has also developed fully autonomous vehicles.
Its work brings together students from technical and non-technical fields to design, build, test, and present cars for Formula Student competitions, an international contest involving hundreds of teams. Ecurie Aix offers students hands-on opportunities to apply their studies, gain project experience, and travel to competitions across Europe. Through collaboration with partner institutes, team members can undertake project and thesis work related to motorsport.
The team also provides software project internships in cooperation with RWTH’s Computer Science 9 research group, combining dedicated student projects with participation in manufacturing, testing, and team activities
