About ECVS
The European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) is a professional organisation dedicated to advancing veterinary surgery and its clinical practice for large and small animals. It promotes high standards of surgical expertise through rigorous postgraduate training, examinations, and continuing education. Veterinary surgeons, known as Residents, pursue specialist training in large or small animal surgery under the supervision of recognised specialists, including ECVS Diplomates and university professors. Those who complete the required programme and examination may become Diplomates, the College’s specialist members.
ECVS supports Diplomates, Residents, veterinarians, and animal owners with resources tailored to their needs. Its services include a specialist-finding directory, an online document library, frequently asked questions, and information about accredited training programmes. The College also organises an Annual Scientific Meeting, shares veterinary surgery news and events, and provides a jobs market. Research grants are available for Residents and Diplomates. Through these programmes and services, ECVS fosters professional development and helps maintain excellence in veterinary surgical care.
