EnergyDemocracy

Energy Democracy Central West New South Wales Co-operative is a community energy organisation focused on helping communities participate in the transition to renewable power. It develops, builds, operates and maintains renewable energy parks owned through local co-operatives, bringing the advantages of larger-scale solar generation closer to the communities they serve. Its work supports local climate action by helping reduce carbon emissions and giving communities greater involvement in energy production.

Through its co-operative, Energy Democracy enables members to invest in solar generation and battery storage by owning shares. The renewable energy park’s batteries can be used to generate additional income for the co-operative, which may be distributed to members. Members can therefore participate in the financial and environmental benefits of renewable energy, subject to the co-operative’s disclosure information and arrangements.

Energy Democracy also promotes practical approaches to reducing energy consumption and costs. Its website provides information about community-owned solar, the benefits of renewable energy co-operatives, news and events, and the Yiray Clean Energy Park.
