Edge of the Playground is an autism advocacy and education platform created to share practical strategies for navigating life with autism. Its mission is to support autistic people while also helping parents, families, friends, educators, and others better understand their experiences. The platform is shaped by the perspective of Mikhaela Ackerman, an autistic public speaker, writer, advocate, and yoga instructor, together with her mother, Mary Lynn.
Mikhaela and Mary Lynn regularly speak at advocacy and educational events, offering both autistic and parent perspectives. Edge of the Playground provides speaking engagements and workshops designed for autistic people by an autistic person, alongside blog articles, educational tools, community resources, and video content. The site also features “Yoga—‘Piece’ of Mind” and offers a way to inquire about booking Mikhaela.
Its content combines lived experience, practical advice, and humor to encourage understanding and celebrate neurodiversity. The platform is intended to bring a wide-ranging community together, while making clear that its opinions are personal and do not constitute legal or professional medical advice
