Ed Murphey Classic

The Ed Murphey Classic is a Memphis-based track and field event honoring Ed Murphey, a former University of Tennessee track standout. Now preparing for its 10th annual edition, the event brings world-class athletes and competition to the city, with programming that includes the Beale Street Murphey Mile and a stop on the USA Track & Field Tour. The one-mile race takes place in downtown Memphis, passing landmarks such as FedExForum, historic Beale Street, and The Orpheum.

The Classic also features events such as the World Shot Put Series, alongside music, food trucks, beer vendors, merchandise, and a trackside after-party. Beyond the competition, the organization aims to help Memphis youth pursue healthy lifestyles through track and field. It offers free clinics and coaching, and gives young athletes the opportunity to meet and learn from elite competitors.

Proceeds from merchandise, concessions, registration fees, and ticket sales support local youth programs. The event combines athletic competition and community activities while working to keep young people engaged in sport
