EEBUS Initiative

EEBUS is an open interoperability standard for connecting energy devices across homes and the grid. Developed through the EEBus Initiative e.V., it provides a common language that helps energy managers, storage systems, heat pumps, electric vehicle chargers, photovoltaic systems, home appliances and grid services communicate across manufacturers. The initiative brings together member organisations to shape specifications, working groups and practical use cases.

EEBUS addresses challenges including power limitation, grid-friendly load control, dynamic pricing, flexibility provision and optimising self-consumption among solar panels, storage, heat pumps and electric vehicles. Its technical resources include the SHIP transport layer, the SPINE data model and use-case specifications, with documentation and publications available for download.

The organisation also supports interoperability through device certification, a certified-device database and testing at its Living Lab in Cologne. Manufacturers can explore the certification process and related guidance, while members can contribute to standardisation and collaboration across the energy ecosystem. EEBUS shares news and technical insights, publishes a newsletter and hosts the annual EEBUSummit, where participants can discuss developments and see interoperability in practice.
