About Environment for Development
Environment for Development (EfD) is a global network dedicated to addressing critical environmental and development challenges, particularly in the Global South. Established in 2007, EfD comprises over 200 environmental economists working across 12 countries, including Ethiopia, India, and South Africa, among others. The network, coordinated from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, focuses on producing policy-relevant research to influence strategies around sustainable resource management and climate change adaptation.
EfD's mission emphasizes the seamless integration of research, capacity development, and policy engagement. Its key programs cover diverse areas such as sustainable energy transitions, the inclusive green economy, and sustainable consumption practices. Additionally, EfD is committed to empowering women in environmental economics through initiatives like Women in Environmental Economics for Development (WinEED). Supported by partners like the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, EfD strives for inclusive sustainable development driven by evidence-based policies aimed at poverty reduction and effective environmental management in the Global South.
