The European Forum of Farm Animal Breeders (EFFAB) is a European association representing organisations involved in farm animal breeding and reproduction. Its members work across ruminants, pigs, poultry, aquaculture and insects, and represent a range of farming systems. EFFAB brings the sector’s perspectives to policymakers and stakeholders, promoting animal breeding that is sustainable, responsible and balanced.
The association supports science-based policies for sustainable livestock production and aquaculture. It monitors European policy developments, coordinates with sector organisations, and draws on member insights to contribute to consultations and policy proposals. Its priorities include breeding for animal welfare, health, disease resistance, resilience and environmental sustainability, as well as the responsible use of New Genomic Techniques.
EFFAB also connects breeders with researchers through European research and innovation initiatives, including its leadership in FABRE TP and participation in EU-funded projects. It shares information on modern animal breeding and the EFABAR Code, and facilitates collaboration with institutions, industry, NGOs and partner associations.
