About Egypt-Business.com
The Egyptian high-speed railway system is a groundbreaking transportation initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity and bolstering the country's status as a global trade and logistics hub. Egypt has recently undertaken several high-speed railway projects spanning approximately 2,000 kilometers, with the involvement of over 10 international companies. Siemens Mobility, Orascom Construction, and Arab Contractors are responsible for the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of the railway lines.
The first phase, managed and operated by Deutsche Bahn and Elsewedy Electric, will connect Ain Sokhna and Marsa Matrouh. The network comprises three lines: the "Suez Canal on rails" connecting Ain Sokhna, Marsa Matrouh, and Alexandria, a freight line between Giza's 6th of October City and Abu Simbel, and a third line extending to Hurghada and Safaga. Offering sustainable and efficient travel, the high-speed trains can reach speeds of up to 250 km/h, reducing travel time by half.
With the electrified network, carbon emissions will be reduced by 70%. Egypt's rich railway history continues to evolve and adapt to meet the country's evolving transportation needs
