EID Méditerranée is a public interdepartmental organization dedicated to managing mosquito nuisance along France’s Mediterranean coast. Its central mission is to control populations of nuisance mosquitoes that develop in the wetlands, ponds and lagoons of the shoreline—not to eradicate all biting insects. The organization aims to keep nuisance at a tolerable level while minimizing environmental impact and working within a controlled budget. Its operations cover both natural areas and urban environments, including mosquitoes that can transmit disease.

EID Méditerranée provides mosquito surveillance, field inspections, mapping, larval control treatments and post-treatment monitoring. It assesses potential breeding areas, evaluates treatment effectiveness and conducts environmental follow-up. Its expertise also includes public-health vector control, community participation and advice on reducing mosquito breeding habitats, including those of the tiger mosquito. Research and development activities explore products, trapping and alternative control methods, with dedicated laboratory work and applied projects. The organization also offers training and diagnostic or advisory services. Its work involves 121 staff and serves 220 municipalities across six participating departments.
